      Surviving A Toxic Workplace

      Communications Specialist
      5mo

How do you prioritize your health when the culture clearly doesn’t? My company says they care about employee wellness, but I haven’t had a real lunch break in weeks. I eat leftovers cold, standing up, between Zoom calls... once it was 3:45pm before I even realized I hadn’t had water all day. We have a Slack channel called #selfcare, but any actual attempt to take a breath is met with eye-rolls or last-minute meeting invites. I want to take better care of myself, but it feels impossible when I’m being praised for burnout and guilted for rest.

      Staying Healthy

      Compliance Officer

When I was little every year it was the doctor telling me I was "healthy as a horse". I've always been active, have been the "healthy eater" to my friends and family. Blood pressure starts to creep up in my 20s. Got married, had kids. Stayed active and ate decently. Now almost 40 and my body starts to fail me. Went to the doctor today, my bmi isn't concerning but blood pressure and cholesterol are high. Do others walk around like a ticking time bomb or am I a special case? 😞

This company has multiple healthcode violations in our location but offers decent pay once you move up in to management. I'm having a hard time reconciling these issues as an employee but would like to help be a force for good in getting this place turned around. What would y'all do. Our job market is very limited in this town so it's hard to find something new. I've been debating on reporting them to the health department but am torn as I can't afford to lose pay if the business shuts down

I went to a firm happy hour last night and was shocked by how much social drinking is actually just functional alcoholism. It’s like the only way anyone knows how to decompress from the stress is by getting completely trashed together. Has anyone found a firm where sobriety (or even just moderation) is actually respected?

Are you able to take care of your health working in retail? I guess the one great thing going on for me is that I'm on my feet all day, and I get a lot of movement in, but I have no time at all to think of what meals to make or meal prep. I'm sure if I were better disciplined on my days off, I could do it, but it feels like such a big task. All I know is I need to stop living off of Wawa food (IYKYK) and I'd love any tips that helped you..

Time for a meal prep check-in. How are the healthy eating goals going for everyone this year? Today I had a "Russian salad" I made yesterday and it was so good! If you've never had it, its beets, mayo, potato, green beans, carrot, and boiled egg. Felt pretty healthy. The funny thing is, I discovered it while I was travelling in Peru a few years back 😂

I tried to tell a funny story about a code brown at dinner last night, and my non-medical friends looked like they wanted to vomit. I forget that things we find normal or hilarious are actually traumatic or disgusting to 99% of the population. Does anyone else find themselves slowly only hanging out with other healthcare people because it’s easier?

Just finished binging on this show called 9 Perfect Strangers. Basically about a wellness retreat where they dose everyone with Psilocybin to help them deal with past trauma etc and deal with their issues. Got me thinking cause I remember seeing a documentary about this years ago. Has anyone actually tried this as a type of therapy and did it help?
