      Surviving A Toxic Workplace

How do you prioritize your health when the culture clearly doesn’t? My company says they care about employee wellness, but I haven’t had a real lunch break in weeks. I eat leftovers cold, standing up, between Zoom calls... once it was 3:45pm before I even realized I hadn’t had water all day. We have a Slack channel called #selfcare, but any actual attempt to take a breath is met with eye-rolls or last-minute meeting invites. I want to take better care of myself, but it feels impossible when I’m being praised for burnout and guilted for rest.

Folks who are in their peri/menopause stage - health Q: Years ago, I was in x-role at a toxic company. Which lead to panic attacks. I moved to a different company and got the mental health help that I needed. Recently started a role similar to the toxic X-role but now a seemly healthy culture. But now, I’m in my early 40s & getting panic attacks. Is this a form of PSTD? My gut seeing signs something is wrong? Or is this peri/menopause? Do I start talking to a MD, mental health, or Obgyn?

When I was little every year it was the doctor telling me I was "healthy as a horse". I've always been active, have been the "healthy eater" to my friends and family. Blood pressure starts to creep up in my 20s. Got married, had kids. Stayed active and ate decently. Now almost 40 and my body starts to fail me. Went to the doctor today, my bmi isn't concerning but blood pressure and cholesterol are high. Do others walk around like a ticking time bomb or am I a special case? 😞

What if your medicine was alive? 👀🧬 That’s the power of cell therapy — using living cells to treat disease, repair damage, and regenerate tissue. From CAR-T cells that fight cancer to iPSCs that can become almost any cell type, this field is reshaping the future of healthcare. And it’s not just theory — we’re doing this in the lab right now. 🧫💥 Whether you’re new to biotech or deep in the science, this is one area you’ll want to keep an eye on 👀💡

What’s your company’s weirdest perk? Mine gives out one “wellness stipend” a year. $500 you can use for therapy, a gym membership, massage… or, oddly enough, crystals. I used mine on a weighted blanket and honestly, best sleep I’ve had in months. It’s a small thing, but it weirdly makes me feel more taken care of than some of the bigger benefits. Do perks like that ever tip the scale for you when comp is close? Or are they just fluff?

I’m considering a role in the Publicis Health network and wanted to know what we think of their benefits package? We know omnicom/IPG is not competitive and Havas just followed suit with changing their PTO policy. The networks seem to be slowly stripping away the joys and perks of this industry, but independent agencies don’t seem to be hiring much.

What’s the most useless wellness perk you’ve seen lately? My current perks include a subscription to a meditation app and wellness Wednesdays where we still have to work, but we do it in a relaxed way. I don't need a guided meditation to fix my stress; I need you to stop adding features to the sprint two days before the deadline.

To stay healthy, don't neglect the importance of self-care...In body, mind and spirit. Whenever you can (or you may want to set up a workout regimen), take time to walk, put the right foods in your body and do not neglect sleep. To detox your system, it won't hurt to drink a glass of green tea, each morning.
