People always say "network network network" from college through the rest of your life. I have paid to get into networking events, had wonderful conversations, joined exclusive Discord channels, gotten recommendations to be put on agency rosters, and I get crickets. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Is there some kind of magical touch to getting freelance clients that I'm totally missing? Frankly I'm kind of over the idea of freelancing after all the effort I've put into "networking"

Does anyone actually want to connect on Linkedin? The whole purpose of that platform is to network right? I'm in the process of applying for jobs, and to better help my chances, I've been trying to network with people within similar roles or the hiring team within the company, hoping to gain an edge but not a single person has been interested in replying. I'm wondering if I'm overstepping a boundary, or am I 1 of 100 with the same strategy?

Can I get advice on how to network? I’m a huge introvert and building professional relationships has been a struggle. I do the linkedin connections request and never speak to them again. How do I approach it? Like not ideals or advice. Hold my hand and tell me what I need to do. I’m so scared. I feel everything is a transaction. Or they know I’m just using them. And i dont have friends and dont maintain old relationships. I have nothing to offer. I dont have value. But i need to learn 🙏

Networking isn't just about LinkedIn, it's about gaining actionable intel. Last year, a former colleague told me their company had a $180k base for a role similar to mine; $40k above my cap. That info gave me the leverage to demand a market rate adjustment during my review, and I got it. Your network is a realtime map of what you're actually worth. Stop just connecting and start trading data with people you trust. Who in your circle is brave enough to talk real numbers with you?

How does one network if they have no current network? I didn’t do it in school because I was very unsociable in general and tended to avoid speaking to people. Never had much confidence since it’s just my personality. Got by despite it, but now hiring is so brutal it seems impossible to get a job without knowing someone. I mostly worked at small companies where no one ever leaves, so now struggle to figure this all out almost 10 years into my career.

I keep hearing that networking is essential for career growth, but half the time it just feels like a circle of people trying to out-sell each other. I’m not shy. I’ll show up, I’ll talk, but I’m also not interested in pretending I’m so passionate about synergies just to hand out my resume. I want real conversations, not LinkedIn theater. Is there actually a way to network without feeling like I’m performing the entire time?

I'm not good at the networking thing. I went through college as a single father working two jobs and completing my degree online. My entire career from school to now has been pretty much solitary. My first job was in a remote team where I was told to sink or swim with little guidance and interaction. How do I network to try to find a position? I will take any and all advice.

Does anyone know Omnicom’s policy on moving agencies in-network (pay, title, other issues)? We don’t have access to handbook yet so it’s tough for me to figure out. If there are restrictions (assuming my manager tells me to eat it in case I need his permission), how long do I need to be out of network in order to get back in without issue?
