WHAT IF you had the chance to directly pitch the founder of the best firm in the world—-on impact every day, work that matters, compensation, freedom, genuinely nice people, WLB, WFA, and fun. Assume you will make more impact, earn more money, and have more fun than you currently experience as a top 5% performer at MBB or a top 1% performer anywhere else. What would you say to him or her to be considered among the 500 other people standing next to you who want the ONE DREAM job available? 😂

I’m stuck between two offers and I keep going back and forth. One is $95k at a big-name firm—think GS, JPM, something that definitely carries weight on a resume. The other is $120k at a boutique I’d never heard of until they reached out. The comp difference is huge, but so is the brand value. Would you go for the prestige and long-term upside, or take the higher paycheck and worry about name recognition later?

I finally hit the $200k base mark after five years, but honestly, the burnout is starting to feel more expensive than the raise. My last role was way more chill even if the equity was basically lottery tickets. I’m trying to figure out if the prestige of a Big Tech name is actually worth the 60-hour weeks. Has anyone here successfully gone back to a mid-sized company without taking a massive haircut on total comp?

I’ve been thinking about whether graduating from a famous or prestigious university actually increases someone’s chances of getting a job, and I’d like to hear other people’s opinions. Does the name of a university really reflect a person’s skills, work ethic, and potential, or is it just a perceived status symbol? Overall, is attending a prestigious university a real career advantage, or is it overrated?

Got offered a new role with a fancy Controller title, but the org is so lean that I’d be doing literally everything myself. No team. No junior support. Just me reconciling, closing, budgeting, forecasting, maybe even ordering office supplies. Part of me sees it as a growth opportunity, but another part is flashing red: burnout ahead. Is this kind of solo title inflation a legit career accelerator?

What’s your greatest accomplishment this year? I was trying to make a list of things, mainly because I wanted a raise and talk with my manager, but the truth is that I've been doing the same things over and over again for the last year. Nothing stands out. Yet it feels like I've moved mountains. Anyone else in this position? Share your wins, maybe it'll inspire me to think differently about mine.

If you don’t come from a target school or a family with connections, is it even possible to break into top-tier finance anymore? I’m networking like crazy, building experience, taking every relevant course, and I still feel like there’s this invisible ceiling. I’ve been told “you’re great, but we went with someone from Wharton” more than once. Is that just the reality of this industry?

Shelling out hundreds of thousands of dollars to attend the top universities and get the best education money can buy only to work like an absolute mutt. There will invariably be people who feel the urge to chime in, "good thing I got full scholarship." Well sure, but the second point still stands and you're still living like a mutt so... You win? 🤷‍♀️

Four years ago, I joined Boom seeking a fresh perspective. I was impressed by the team's enthusiasm and tireless work on XB-1, a goal they achieved. Now, they're building a supersonic airliner, an ambitious undertaking that requires continuous expansion and talented individuals. It's an incredibly exciting time at Boom, offering an unparalleled career opportunity.

Paramount is officially the winner in the WBD bid war. I found this whole process particularly interesting, as its not every day you see auch massive media firms merging. It was also a great example of value beyond hard dollars in M&A. Do you think they made the right choice? https://www.adweek.com/convergent-tv/its-netflixs-move-after-wbd-says-paramount-has-superior-offer/
