I graduated in 2023 currently living in Florida with 3.5 years of experience in aerospace. I got my engineering degree in electrical and I’m wondering if I’m screwed trying to land a job within electrical power or energy? The closest experience I really have within my degree is basic circuit board building, basic circuit design in programs like Pspice, and using a digital oscilloscope. To this day, the closest I can think of that I have experience in is reading low level c code and logic design.

I have a new editor and I can't work out if they are on a power trip or just have a personal dislike of me. Everything I write they have 'notes on' or think I have 'the wrong angle'. It's gotten to the point she is arguing that the sky is red if I call it blue. Nothing sadder at work than a good job being ruined by a new manager on a power trip. What do you get out of hassling me? I am trying to work out if I should power through it and hope she calms down or walk away.

I was on a trip with my wife’s family and her sibling, who works in banking, literally worked the entire trip (and always does). It seems like they feel so much pressure to work and we want to try to help her unplug. Anyone from the banking industry able to shed light on this dynamic and how you actually unplug, even if just for a few days?

Would you let your coworkers borrow your phone charger? Hear me out. I loaned one of my coworkers my charger last year and never saw it again. That coworker tried to gaslight me, saying he'd already returned my charger. Ever since then, I keep my charger hidden unless I'm using it. Today, a different coworker asked to use my charger when I'm done with it, and I said no. I hate having to replace stuff because someone else loses it.

I recently finished my PhD in Wireless Power Transfer and Power Electronics at KUST, China, focusing on KHz-range EV charging and EMI reduction. I’ve published in Wireless Power Transfer (Cambridge Univ. Press) and Actuators (MDPI) and hold a Chinese patent. I’d love to connect with professionals or mentors in the UK ,Europe, Australia or Gulf countries for advice on postdoc or lecturer opportunities in power and energy research.

      Crazy Customer Stories

I took my laptop on vacation thinking I’d just “check in” for a bit. Soon, mornings by the beach turned into replying to emails, and afternoons meant quick calls from the hotel lobby. By the third day, I realized I wasn’t really on vacation at all. So I shut it down, left the laptop in the bag, and finally let myself enjoy the break. Do you ever struggle to fully unplug when you’re supposed to be resting?

I watched a partner miss multiple deadlines, then quietly pin it on associates during a client call. No accountability, no apology, just a smooth redirect that left us looking incompetent. It’s infuriating to take hits for mistakes you didn’t make but can’t safely call out. How do you navigate that kind of power dynamic?

I’m feeling this “power pause” concept so hard as an “older” mom of young children who was already getting sick of marketing before getting laid off while pregnant. I’ve been scrapping by with freelance work between baby demands. But where to go from here? Would love to discuss power pause in comments. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/10/style/girl-boss-lean-in-ambition.html
