      Associate Wealth Advisor

Don’t fall for the Wealth Management roles boasting uncapped commission with a nominal draw. It’s just high-stress telemarketing with a fancy desk. I spent my first month cold-calling lists of local doctors and business owners trying to pitch asset allocation models I didn't even build. If you don't hit your monthly asset inflow target, they deduct the difference from your future pay until you’re basically working for free. Is there any entry point into financial advisory that doesn't feel like a predatory MLM scheme?

If you haven't realized the game yet... 1.Pre/seed VC/PE firm with mostly private individuals as LPs make investments at super low multiples 2. Do some fugazi "value creation" 3. Series A, B, C firms with mostly institutional LPs where money is coming from pension/public funds makes an investment at super high multiples 4. All the funds with mostly private individuals as LPs make a killing and look to exit 5. The startup fails or goes public 6. All the middle managers get paid 7. ...

Welcome to the new edition of the Fintech Wrap Up! This week showed how scale still matters, but only when backed by strong infrastructure. Bank of America’s consumer bank generates over 41 billion dollars in revenue and 10.8 billion dollars in profit, yet retail banking continues to miss on personalisation despite high customer expectations. https://open.substack.com/pub/samboboev/p/coinbases-strategy-map-baas-vs-embedded?utm_campaign=post-expanded-share&utm_medium=web

Hello! I have been in private wealth management since 2009 and formally an advisor on my own book for the last 9 years. I am currently working in the Private Bank and am considering a switch somewhere that I can build and own my book of business in a team oriented environment. I’m considering an opportunity with a large RIA but wondering if anyone has insight into Morgan Stanley Private Wealth? What is it like to be a financial advisor there?

Interesting. I hope this means we can’t leverage on our experience and learnings to advance our careers after leaving Protiviti….. Protiviti Inc. v. Davis, Shockley & SolaSec LLC - Filed on July 2, 2024 in the Northern District of Texas, Protiviti alleged that two former employees (Caleb Davis and Kyle Shockley), now with their startup SolaSec LLC, misappropriated confidential trade secrets and violated employment agreements .

I’ve been working in the fincrime domain for ~2 years, starting at NatWest and later joining Revolut’s FIU after a 1.8-year stint at RBI, driven by an 80% hike and WFH. While the exposure and pay are good, the role is mentally demanding with long hours. Currently on probation and recently moved to a business vertical, I’m exploring a shift to entry-level finance roles. I’m CFA L1 qualified with a B.Com (Hons). Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi. I have an offer for SC role at Capgemini Invent (US). It’s an industry specific strategy consulting role vs where I’m at which is a generalist software specialist implementation consultant (SC level). Pay is $25K more. Should I consider the switch? Career growth at my current firm seems off the table, so while it’s not a title change, it is a pay bump. Feels like a better role, but curious about the health of Cap/invent.

How is Protiviti Tech Audit/Advisory, just got an offer for a senior role coming from another mid firm (GT, RSM, BDO, Baker Tilly etc…). Are they any different, more demanding? I’ve been pretty fortunate to work on longer term engagements and have a great work life balance for the past few months and expecting to continue that, but my utilization has depleted heavily and most likely layoff are coming soon for me.

Question for Finance Professionals What’s one financial metric that you believe investors and business owners should pay more attention to? I’m collecting insights from professionals across the industry and would be interested in continuing the discussion through a short Zoom or Google Meet call with those who are open to networking and sharing perspectives.
