RTO is absolutely crazy. I work for a very large tech firm who is one of the RTO drivers. Managers are now spending hours a week checking reports and making sure our employees are actually going into the office. We got notified that the new policy is people have one week to comply or be fired. Since we are already short staffed due to layoffs, nobody wants to shoot themselves in the head by laying off a critical role. I signed up to innovate and lead, not be a hall monitor.

If you work for a company that offers remote work and is generally not terrible to work for, please share the name of the company. Now that fidelity will require full RTO, I am looking for somewhere that won't require me to commute in just so I can sit in zoom meetings from the office where literally none of my team is colocated.

RTO is an excuse to weeddown ppl by outsourcing talent or getting fresh blood. At least for Finance, folks do not interact in the office as we're focused on reviewing, recording, and drafting. The ones who talk are the ones interacting with customers and vendors, That can be disturbing to the rest. For leaders, they feel that they can see what they're paying for - and I mean the office lease that ends in a couple of years and they couldn't get out of after COVID. Most def some slackers, too

Has anyone’s RTO put them in a bad position with a very long commute (3-4 hrs a day/80-90 miles each trip)? Did it take long to get out and find another job, or are you still stuck like I am? It’s clear they’re pushing me out. I’m not able to expense this as I was prior being fully remote, and they will not excuse this distance as being too far. Nothing in my job agreement stating remote/hybrid either. I’m not close to $100k which in my state would be good, and did not receive an increase.

what is with 4 day rto? class of 22 grad so maybe ive gotten used to “remote” but did often work remote in tech before law school. ive been at my current firm 6 months (recently lateraled) and maybe talk to someone once a week. Otherwise office is a ghost town but of course my specialist practice group keeps pushing RTO. i would save so much money (100k+ easily) if not having to live in a vhcol area to accommodate 4 day rto

Everyone is saying RTO is just a sneaky way for companies to make people quit without paying severance. But here’s the thing, if literally every company is pulling the same move, where are we supposed to go? It’s like they all got together and decided to remove remote work as an option. Is this just a cycle where workers will regain power in a few years, or has AI going to help the shift the balance in favor of the employer permanently?

How much value would you put on working remote vs in office? Just got told that we are RTO for 5 days a week and currently making $124k. I have a friend that can get me in at a place for $100k but fully remote saving me a 30 minute commute each day. Calcs say it’s close to being worth just on cost of gas/driving but I’m not sure if the growth opportunities are there. Any advice?

Anyone know how long it takes for RTX to send offers? I had my final interview last week for HRLDP and the person told me offers should be out this week. It's Friday and nothing yet but I'm hoping there's just a small delay. I've worked in early career programs and i know rejection sends fast but offers take time. Just not sure

REMOTE Anyone successfully negotiate returning to a a fully remote status after RTO? If so, did you formalize the arrangement in any way? I want to make the request but (i) am afraid they may not accommodate it and (ii) am afraid they may accommodate it initially then change their minds. Thanks in advance!

How do you truly feel about RTO? I’ve been working from home for almost a decade went fully remote in 2019. Prior to that I only went to the office once a week. I personally feel RTO is just a way to micromanage. My job has always and forever been able to be done remotely. There’s no need for me to be in office.
