How are UK student loans not criminal? For context I graduated around 9 years ago and have grown my salary from £30k to £110k. I paid the £9k student fees for 4 years and took an enhanced maintenance allowance due to lower income parents etc. my debt on graduating was ~£60k. My debt now is ~£60k but I’ve paid like £16k in interest or something. If someone with a fairly strong compensation trajectory can’t make a dent without paying off as lump sum early how is anyone supposed to do it??

I have a strange one here. I came in 6 months ago, I’m a Jr FA, female 24. I handle accounts less than 250k. I’m learning & great with it. There are 8 male advisors. For whatever reason the admin ladies are questioning my every move. They check how long I took for lunch, what time I come, if I decide to work from home etc. Quite a bit of snide remarks. I usually smile & ignore them. I am a college graduate w/ a masters, we are not the same. How do I bring it up to the branch manager?

I got a lead for a 2/2 1,000sqf garden style condo with $728/mo HOA in suburb South FL for $171k. It's currently rented by a couple with kid month to month for $1,800/mo. Seller is offering financing with 25% down and no interest for 2 years. I know the rent could easily be bumped up to $2k because I own another unit in the same complex. The high HOA (I already pay that same amount on the other unit) and doubts about the economy for the next couple of years gives me pause. Thoughts? Thanks!

Looking to branch into server work or IT but homelab stuff kinda doesn't have the same access to active directory and much of the systems in use for enterprise building management in terms of all the specific things they do but I still want to get into it. I do have some experience with pxe, pfsense, truenas, VMware like proxmox and such but where do I go to with finding the right entry into such fields without starting at tech support phones?

I’m studying for my Six Sigma Black Belt right now, and the textbook scenarios are always so clean. The data is available, the stakeholders listen, and the root cause is obvious. In my actual experience in the industry, the "root cause" is usually a mix of politics and budget cuts, not just a statistical outlier. Does anyone else feel like certifications teach you the science but fail to teach you the politics of the job?

I was talking to my sister-in-law today about New Years plans and the conversation turned onto the new year and resolutions. She said she never bothers setting goals or resolutions because there is no point. I really had to bite my tongue! I feel like if you're not pushing yourself then what is the point of life? Do you agree with her view or is it better to push yourself even if you fail?

"If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?" This, this was the question I was asked during my interview this afternoon. I'm usually pretty good at thinking on my feet, but this one threw me off. I couldn't think of a tree to save my life and ended up saying a tall one... So, I think it's safe to say I'm not getting that job. How does someone answer this question?
