Hot take: is STAR overrated? I used to rely heavily on the STAR method in interviews, but every time answers sound rehearsed and generic. I would focus more on fitting my story into the framework than on clearly explaining my thinking and be natural. Ultimately, I don't think STAR is important. What's important is to know your stories down to a T in terms of "problem or situation, your action and outcome". The thing is, if you know the story and it answer a question, you won't think about STAR.

I just failed the STAR method when talking to an interviewer for a mock interview. I don’t even know what they want out of these questions anymore. I have no drive to answer it this way because after working for over half of my life doing some low end job I now don’t even have the drive to make my answers sound sharp enough for a higher level job. I want to quit now and give the crumbs to the rest. Good luck out there. Getting this master’s degree for no reason. I guess I like making bad debt.
