      Parents at Work

Parents who have older kids, how did you manage to find energy post work to actually engage with your child? I switch off work between 5 to 7 PM, prep dinner over weekend, and don't pick up work till after bedtime. It's always a race to finish the last call before the kid comes home from daycare, but the challenge is I am already so drained, then dinner, play time, bath, bed time (half the time I fall asleep in his room) and then pick up work because nothing ever gets done during the day*

Just moved to new town for 3 months job offer! Unfortunately, now Stress and Depression are the two main culprits draining my energy since day one. Stress coming from the day to day battles of different scenarios in the workplace, & Depression from travelling back home exhausted, drained, and arrive with nobody to touch,or even talk to about what has transpired at work. Nights of feeling cold and days passing without interactions with someone you know! How do you guys cope with such situations?

After a very frustrating day, I'm trying to relax and prepare to get some rest. Between the commute, office politics, meetings that could have been an email and deciding what to make for dinner, I don't have the energy to adult any more today. I know tomorrow is Friday and pay day, which helps. I want to wash this week out of my hair and look forward to the upcoming short week. How can I muster the strength? How do you keep getting up to face another day?

      The Burnout Bowl

I feel like I'm handling the stress at work okay. I'm able to hide how burnt out and exhausted I am, and push through while maintaining a professional face the entire time. So, work is okay. But at home, I just don't have the energy to keep up the act. I'm snippy with my husband and kids, and the lack of energy keeps me from enjoying family time. I don't want my family to suffer because of me. What should I do?

I didn’t realize how much energy it takes to stay positive in conversations, especially after a few setbacks. When I was laid off on Halloween 2024 this happens a lot. You still have to show up engaged, interested, and confident every time. That part takes effort. How do you reset your energy before the next conversation? I’ve watched coworkers slowly disengage over time. They're not dramatic resignations, just quiet withdrawal. Less enthusiasm, fewer ideas, more “just get through the shift” energy. It’s subtle, but it spreads. I don’t blame them, but being surrounded by burnout makes it hard to stay motivated myself. I want to care without becoming numb. How do you stay engaged when the energy around you is clearly fading?

Some days at work just feel heavy, you’re drained, unmotivated, and everything seems harder than it should. I’ve learned it’s okay to have low days; they don’t define your worth. What helps me is taking short breaks, talking to a trusted colleague, and reminding myself that tomorrow is a new chance. Work can be tough, but giving yourself grace and focusing on small wins makes it easier to get through.

What do you do on the days you really don't feel social or like talking to people? With my job, I don't just get to sit at a desk in front of my laptop and do my things.. which is also one of the big reasons why I love my job. But on tough days, I just feel like running away from it all. How do you fare with low-energy days that still demand high energy?

After a difficult day at the office, how do you motivate yourself for the next morning? Sometimes one bad meeting, stress, or misunderstanding affects the whole mood, but the next day still needs fresh energy. Do you disconnect, talk to someone, exercise, or simply reset your mindset? What really helps you come back stronger and stay positive?
