Thoughts on Sullivan & Cromwell opening a Houston office? It’s unclear to me how they expect to compete with Latham and K&E. This isn’t NYC, brand alone doesn’t translate into wins here. It also raises the question of whether this starts to resemble Skadden Houston: present for years, but never close to market-leading, or whether it looks more like Paul Hastings or Clifford Chance: trying to grow in Houston but unable to attract the real market players.

I’m in rural Ohio making $28/hour and I just found out the new Costco down the street is starting at $26. I spent four years in school and have a national certification, but the unskilled retail sector has almost caught up to my professional ceiling. I love the lab, but I’m finding it harder to justify the expertise when the pay doesn't reflect the liability I carry. Is this a Midwest problem, or are lab salaries stagnating everywhere?

Sales Associate roles at Ferguson - compensation package is well below any and all competitors. Any competitor will offer near $30-40K more than Ferguson's $50K. Without experience in plumbing and HVAC sales. The package is actually worse than just the salary, you will be charged -8% on almost everything that you sell. Make a 16% GP on a sale? Your comp is as if you sold it at 8%. Also expect to work multiple weekends a year performing inventory. Uncompensated.

I thought this was interesting. Old news for people out of Texas, but Whataburger sold a controlling interest to company out of Chicago. When they recently launched a King of the Hill collab, people got mad because they said they’re not a Texas company anymore. I think that’s pretty ridiculous. I am a sucker for a collab. If I was in Texas, I would jump on it. Is anyone in here from Texas and have an opinion on this?

3L interested in PE funds (New York), and have offers at Simpson Thacher and Latham to start as a first year associate (summered elsewhere). From the limited I’ve gathered, Simpson seems to have a better funds group, but I think Latham has a better reputation overall (I think?). Which is the better option if the goal is to stay in big law long term?

Does anyone have insight into Simpson Thacher's staff attorney program, particularly in the private funds practice? I'm wondering if this position carries the same stigma as other staff attorney positions and whether it's possible to get on partner track after a year or two.

Anyone have any insight/thoughts on Barnes & Thornburg, preferably their Los Angeles office? I’m looking to lateral from a V50 that pays market scale (Cravath/Milbank or whatever we’re calling it now) with lockstep for salary and bonuses. Mostly curious about Barnes’ comp and culture. Thanks in advance!

What a brilliant move! Heinz kind of put an end to restaurants filling up old Heinz bottles with ketchup that's not Heinz with this. They figured out what exact Pantone color their ketchup looks like and put it on their labels. "If the colors match, it's Heinz". So genius! I'm a fan.

Heinz did it again! They created the ultimate solution to "where the hell does the ketchup go??" As an avid fry eater who has always had to have ketchup with it and squeezed it onto a napkin, this is making me particularly happy. Now lets just hope this system gets normalized.
