      Engineering

      Engineer II
      1mo

I graduated in 2023 currently living in Florida with 3.5 years of experience in aerospace. I got my engineering degree in electrical and I’m wondering if I’m screwed trying to land a job within electrical power or energy? The closest experience I really have within my degree is basic circuit board building, basic circuit design in programs like Pspice, and using a digital oscilloscope. To this day, the closest I can think of that I have experience in is reading low level c code and logic design.

Was hired by the managing partner and have a great working relationship with him. He hired a new attorney recently bc the load is a lot for him to just do but she already made me cry during her 1st week. Even he said that he thinks she might be having a power trip and my receipts of how she interacts with me is a complete 180 of any interactions she had has with him. I love the work I do, my work arrangement, pay, everything, but I don’t think I can do the long run if she stays on board idk

      Interview Tips

      Manager
      3mo

How do people actually get better at reading internal dynamics and informal power structures in big companies? A lot of us focus on delivering strong work and hitting targets, but it starts to become clear that performance alone does not carry as much weight as expected. I find this is true especially when interviewing for new roles internally. It's always as if they want someone who already did the exact same thing and happens to move into an identical role. Thoughts?

      Accounting

I have been working in public accounting for over 10 years now. Over the course of my career there were many times I felt burnt out, but yet I had energy and drive to do things I'm passionate about outside of work. 2 years ago I left the big firm grind and have a lower stress job where I work less but have no energy for anything other than work. It seems to be getting worse recently. Nothing changed other than my age and I weigh a bit (5lbs) more recently. Any advice?

I’m feeling this “power pause” concept so hard as an “older” mom of young children who was already getting sick of marketing before getting laid off while pregnant. I’ve been scrapping by with freelance work between baby demands. But where to go from here? Would love to discuss power pause in comments. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/07/10/style/girl-boss-lean-in-ambition.html

      Jobs in Retail & Hospitality

      Store Leader
      4mo

One of the employees in our store who has been at the same retail store for 10 years and just got a 90‑cent raise in his review. I feel so disappointed that I'm in a position where I can say something, but nothing I say has any power He told them to keep the raise, and I think that was a power move. Do other store leads feel helpless like this?

I just rolled off a massive project that had me doing long nights and weekends regularly. Everyone said it would get me promoted, but honestly I don’t feel proud of the work and now I'm struggling to turn it into a power move for my career. What’s the best way I can spin an exhausting project with mediocre results into something that sounds impactful?

How much of your energy does your job take from you. Ironically I find that sometimes the days I am at the desk all day are more exhausting than days I am doing physical work. But then some days the work is so physical l wish I was at my desk. Is your job exhausting, physical, or just mentally draining? How tired does your work make you?
