How serious is shoplifting-larceny if it appears on a background check? Really stupid mistake. Young twenties female here NY based shoplifted last week (~$175 value) and going to see judge later next week. I have a final round interview the same week one day before my judge appearance, and am wondering can anyone PLEASE give legal advice on how it factors into a background check and how to navigate this? I’ve never done anything illegal before until this last week, have no idea what to expect

Will I be taken seriously when I enter this new field? I’m new to the engineering field, so new that I haven’t even started my courses yet. This is a career change from being an automotive apprentice, I got injured and couldn’t recover or work. I’ve been working for 7 years, and I feel like businesses won’t take me seriously with the little associates certificate I’m hoping to get. What would you recommend to help me validate myself in the engineering field as hardworking and eager to learn?

I applied for a contract position on Linked-In. I have a great resume, and it fit the position perfectly. The recruiter contacts me multiple times wanting to submit me to the client - which is a Federal client - US citizenship required. But then tells me he needs my drivers license with full date of birth. I think this is a reputable company - they've been around for a bit, however, this is rife for age discrimination, not to mention a security issue. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

We filled out a survey this week. The survey is to improve the work environment and rate our bosses, to know how they doing they job etcétera.. We do once every year, and they give us random numbers to enter into the system for the survey. This year was different; they told us to enter our employee ID! How are we going to rate our bosses if we enter our employee ID? My question is, is it legal to do that? They say it's "confidential," but I don't believe them. How I'm going to said something!?

Third year ID associate at an AM200 firm and am looking for ways to get out of ID. Received a job offer from a Plaintiff’s firm with a base comp of $25k more than I’m currently making and a great bonus structure. The firm is well-known for generating a ton of business, however, has a terrible reputation in the community as being the “scum bag” lawyers that are universally hated. Is it worth it to take the offer and get out of ID (making more) but potentially hurt my reputation long term?

Just looking for some advice. I received a DUI after my background check got completed and before my start date at a B4. It's the stupidest thing I have ever done and it has genuinely changed my life for the better. I'm just struggling on how to approach it now and whether to disclose it to my recruiter. In my employee contract it says I don't have to disclose anything releated to a misdemeanors which relate solely to the operation of a motor vehicle. Any opinions

Applied for a job w/Johnson & Johnson, a co. that says it encourages apps from ppl who may not meet every single requirement listed. J&J says their goal is to understand a candidate's background & how their skills & ideas can contribute to success, rather than simply checking off a list of qualifications. My rejection: "Your credentials are aligned with our needs but were not an exact fit for this job." Yuck. I should suggest they hire me to improve their HR correspondence.

I work in ID in Detroit, MI. I have about 2 years of experience after I transitioned from a general litigation firm after a year. I want to transition out of ID and into something else. Are there particular area of law that my ID experience will translate well? Anyone have suggestions on how to do this or have experience doing the same thing? I had a recruiter tell me it’s really hard to do anything but ID law. I would appreciate any advice.
