      Law

      Associate Attorney

Stop telling me to network when what you really mean is work for free on your Saturdays. I’m tired of being told that attending voluntary bar association galas is the only way to get ahead in this industry. It’s just unpaid labor where we have to dress up and pretend to like people we’re actively litigating against. My personal brand shouldn't require me to sacrifice the only four hours of sleep I get a week. Am I the only one who thinks the obsession with networking is just an excuse to keep us in work mode 24/7?

      Job Hunting in Tech

      Brycen Long
      4mo

Hello, first post on glass door. I am a cybersecurity Student at Ivy Tech Indianapolis Downtown, and a work study for my campus's IT Department. I have my A+ and will be taking my Network+ in about a couple months. Sense I am close to graduation and not many IT support roles are not willing to hire me due to my college schedule, I am working on trying to build myself up to being a more desirable applicant. Does anyone have any advice on what I could do to make finding the first job easier?

How does one network if they have no current network? I didn’t do it in school because I was very unsociable in general and tended to avoid speaking to people. Never had much confidence since it’s just my personality. Got by despite it, but now hiring is so brutal it seems impossible to get a job without knowing someone. I mostly worked at small companies where no one ever leaves, so now struggle to figure this all out almost 10 years into my career.

I'm of the opinion that you have to build your network before you need it. Most great opportunities come through people, not job ads. Genuine relationships, trust, and staying connected open doors faster than applications ever will. Don’t wait until you’re desperate to start networking grow it while things are steady.

I am switching to L.E.K. Consulting US. I was wondering what kind of tech they provide and what I might need. Do they provide a corporate phone or pay for your line? Do they offer a stipend for wfh setups? (Hybrid setup) Just trying to get as much info as possible. Thanks in advance.
