      #OverheardAtWork

      Junior Operations Officer
      1w

Hi, I gotta get something off my chest. The other day I went to an interview with a major multinational that has been operation for quite some time in our country. But when we talked about salary I asked for what internationally is conform. Yet they rejected my expectations and offered way lower. And advised me yes they pay locally conform not internationally conform. Of course I reject because since it would’t be a learning exp. since it is something I already do for the same amount of money.

PwC offered me a position in international tax full time offer and Deloitte offered me one in global mobility tax. I did a global mobility internship in my junior year but I wasn’t crazy about it but international tax seems to be more interesting. What do you think is more marketable skill and experience to have? I liked Deloitte as a company but I’m very hesitant in taking global mobility as I don’t know if I want that to be my career path

What would give me better international mobility/appeal to countries like UK, Australia, Ireland, etc.? Option 1 > Stay at IBM (current position - package consultant for a specific Oracle product) with an opportunity to become a Project Manager in the next 12 months + get PMP. Option 2 > Move to Deloitte as a ‘Consultant’ for the Oracle supply chain transformation projects. Help would be appreciated! May need to leave US in 18 months.

Working in a "Global Role" sounds prestigious on a resume, but in reality, it often just means you never actually sleep. I’ve spent years taking calls at 10 PM or 6 AM to accommodate other time zones, effectively extending my workday to 16 hours. We call it "collaboration," but it feels more like a lack of boundaries. For those in global teams, do you actually get "comp time" for those late-night calls, or is it just expected for free?

I’m currently based in the U.S., with 4 years of client-facing experience in international tax compliance & provision, along with 4 years of prior experience in India. I’m planning to move back to India to start my own international tax compliance service. Do you think there’s a sustainable market for this model? Or would it be wiser to wait until there’s more clarity around OBBBA and a potential move to SM, and then consider relocating?

As an Executive Assistant managing complex international travel, I highly recommend using ChatGPT to plan multi-leg trips. It quickly builds clear, efficient itineraries with flight, visa, and logistics details—saving hours of research. For any EA handling global schedules, this tool is a game changer! With everything happening globally right now, I can feel the shift in people. Not always said out loud, but it is there. I had someone ask if there is support available because they are worried about family overseas. Work does not exist in isolation from the world. Are we doing enough to acknowledge that?
