      New York City

      Finance Professional

Greetings New Yorkers! NYC finance commuters—subway question: I’m moving to NYC and will be commuting from Queens to Manhattan for a banking role and have a lifting restriction. Many stations don’t have elevators/escalators, and buses can be delayed. Do you carry your laptop to and from work? or do you request an extra laptop for home? If you do carry laptop to and from work, what setup handles stairs best—rolling backpack, , or something else has worked for you? Any practical tips appreciat

What is your favorite commuter-friendly gym bag that actually keeps your corporate life and fitness life cleanly separated? I am trying so hard to eliminate the "I'm too tired once I get home" excuse by planning my workouts straight from the office. However, my gym bag is currently a nightmare, crammed with a laptop, a change of dress shoes, resistance bands. I look like I'm moving into my cubicle permanently every time I walk through the lobby in the morning.

I just moved states for my spouse’s job and was shocked by the pay cut. The same role, same certifications, but I’m making $5/hour less here. It feels like all my experience suddenly counts for less just because of a zip code. I knew cost of living mattered, but I didn’t expect the gap to be this big. How do you handle negotiating in a new market when you know your skills are worth more? Do you just accept it?

Why do so many retail jobs still insist on a "professional" dress code that requires expensive shoes or specific trousers, but then offer no clothing allowance? Expecting someone to drop a hundred dollars on gear before their first paycheck even clears is a huge barrier for people just trying to get back on their feet. Does your current place provide a uniform or are you out of pocket?

We all face many challenges in our daily office life, but my recent experience was quite disappointing. Our company requires us to wear a uniform, which I completely understand. However, now they are asking employees to pay for the winter jacket as part of the uniform. I believe essential items like this should be provided by the company, not charged to employees.what you think about it

Currently at a non-market AM100 firm in NYC with loose 3day in office requirements, which I manage with a 5hr total commute per day. Opportunity to jump to AM25 firm but with 4 day in office requirements. I’m not currently paying rent but will likely need to get a place closer to the new firm, incurring roughly $40k a year in rent. Is the new position worth it? WWYD

      Salary Negotiations

      Administrative Assistant

Is it reasonable to ask for commuter benefits when the salary is slightly below what I was hoping for? The company is downtown, and between parking and high gas prices, I'm looking at some major out-of-pocket costs every month. I don't want to over-negotiate, but the commute expenses would eat into an already low offer pretty quickly. How would you handle this ask?

Has anyone used ZipRecruiter to look for work? I just started and, in a way, I like it as you can see when you applied to a company and when they viewed your resume. I applied to one company on 2/10 and they reviewed my resume today and messaged me today regarding an interview tomorrow.

Hey everyone, I got an email the other day from someone from Zip Recruiter. It’s not gonna workout for me and I thought I would pass it along for anyone interested in the Tampa Bay area. I posted this in the job openings bowl and was told to post it here too. I hope this helps anyone looking.
