You can not like what he said and also not be happy about this. We have a wanna be dictator removing free speech in front of everyoneβs eyes and his followers are saying itβs a good thing.
Sickβ¦very sickβ¦
I guess I shouldnβt be surprised that the people who donβt see the difference between censorship from the FCC and general consequences for actions from society are the same people that will do anything for their dear leader
This has literally been litigated in court, PwC3, and the government was found not to have violated anyone's first amendment rights. You need to start getting your news from some place other than Fox or OAN.
This thread is full of π€‘s, everyone is more upset about a show being cancelled than someone getting shot over their beliefs. If every right leaning person reacted like the left reacted with george floyd half the country would be in ashes.
Thereβs one more career criminal whoβs sleeping in the WH.
Iβm trying to figure out how this is funny. Do you understand that weβve crossed the rubicon?
January 6 was a insurrection, everyone who received a prison sentence should be rotting in jail still, and posting long rambling comments trying to claim otherwise just makes you look off your rocker, A1.
His comments were very tame. Most of what was βoffensiveβ was the video of Trump talking about his ballroom when asked about the death of his friend.
Ah yes the crazy right wing Groyper who dated a transitioning male, claimed CK was full of hate, and looked at fury porn. What are the odds! π€‘
Pretty unprecedented how the media regulator is pushing into areas they have no business in. Can you imagine if a democratic appointed media regulator pushed Fox to fire Hannity for his lies?
Please point to a situation where the head of the FCC bullied Fox or newsmax into dropping programs or hosts?
Watching these conversations from outside the US is wild. About half the American electorate has embraced fascism and deliberate cruelty, and they don't even have the good grace to try to hide it.
People like D1 are either paid Russian trolls or just happily providing services to Comrade Vlad for free. They hate America since the freedoms formerly guaranteed by our Constitution have been extended to blacks, browns and "others" (e.g. Gays, Trans). You all in Europe, Australia & the Mid-East need to institute donald-like tactics and check out the Social Media feeds of people coming in. You don't want your countries polluted by people that excuse fascism because it serves their side. Also the OP's comments make me think McK has really, really lowered their hiring standards.
Good riddance β¦
Live by the sword die by the sword. I.against vuolence but hwrw is a person that teies to rationalize school shootings. To be shoot because of his standings is wrong but I would think k thw 2nd amendment would cover everyone
Iβm surprised by the number of those in professional services that are fine with a government deciding what free speech looks like
I donβt see any here but nice deflection from the topic at hand
Apparently Jimmy Kimmel should have stuck to acceptable comments, like advocating for homeless people to be executed
The party of clearing the swamp to eliminate the imaginary weaponization of the government has become the very weapon they claimed to despise.
E1 who exactly are you "educating?" I suspect you are teaching at the Ken Paxton University of Ethics on a class on "Dissecting donald's 30K Lies for kernels of useful insights that better humanity." ; )
The end has begun
This is NOT a First Amendment violation. Mr. Kimmel still has his freedom of expression. His on-air monologue was a pay-for-hire scenario, and, like most of us, he works as an at-will employee. If we started giving questionable perspectives at our place of employment, we would most likely be disciplined or terminated. Political views aside, when affiliates decided not to carry his show any longer, the company had to look at the bottom line financially, and cut the show to reduce potential revenue loss. This also signifies that a good share of the audience did not agree with these views and may have left or be leaving as customers. ABC is owned by Disney, and Disney must answer to its shareholders and maintain profitability to ensure its continuation. Mr. Kimmel became a liability, so he was let go.
Educator1's comments on this aged about as well has his other comments. We really need to encourage our best and brightest to go into teaching. That way folks like E1 can maybe find their true calling in life...ike working at a Russian troll farm.
People losing their jobs is fine, whatever. I donβt think someone should be fired for posting a quote by the guy, but if companies want to satisfy who they think is the majority, itβs no different than when the left had social capital. But the FCC chair threatening news organizations over speech he doesnβt like? That is very much dangerous and uncharted territory.
But he didn't.
Cancel culture is now the mainstream of both parties. We live in a sad, sad world if people are that scared of saying something offensive.
EY2, a "side" did not shoot that guy. When you have that mindset and you propagate lies like this, it demeans you and the conversation. One kid who was raised extremely MAGA and in a world of internet memedom, made a choice because of his belief that Kirk was going too far. It wasn't a "side," it was one person. Do better.
All these pathetic self righteous tools only commenting because he got canned for criticizing someone you donβt like, bet youβd be perfectly happy with him loosing his show if he criticized george floyd.
Floyd? The unhinged criminal?
Freedom of speech is very different from a private company deciding what they want to show for whatever reasons they want
Once again missing the point.
From what Iβve read across multiple sources, it seems to me that Jimmy Kimmel was careless and showed poor judgement more than anything else, but definitely didnβt deserve this. Itβs always tricky with comedians as they can often hide behind satire, but what he said veers towards irresponsible speculation and potentially even implying conspiracy, which, in an already politically fragmented country shows a lack of judgement and civic duty. Intent comes secondary to effect and he will have been well aware of that. Overall, wrong move to suspend him, FCC (read: Carr) should have taken time to think, and Jimmy should reflect on his civic duties.
SSM1, the βcivic dutyβ justification is empty coming from Carr, given Fox News and NewsMax regularly report false news and spread dangerous conspiracy theories (immigrants are eating our pets, vaccines cause autism, etc.). And theyβre news stations that people look to for facts, not comedians that are on air for entertainment Carrβs move is to silence critics of the administration, hard stop. Trump himself said it, and so does Project 2025, which Carr helped author
Why does Biden and the left not like free speech and always getting offended ? Whats with this cancel culture man?
What does Biden have to do with this? Is he still president or something?
OPβs employer checks out
