This thread is full of 🤡s, everyone is more upset about a show being cancelled than someone getting shot over their beliefs. If every right leaning person reacted like the left reacted with george floyd half the country would be in ashes.

His comments were very tame. Most of what was “offensive” was the video of Trump talking about his ballroom when asked about the death of his friend.

Pretty unprecedented how the media regulator is pushing into areas they have no business in. Can you imagine if a democratic appointed media regulator pushed Fox to fire Hannity for his lies?

Watching these conversations from outside the US is wild. About half the American electorate has embraced fascism and deliberate cruelty, and they don't even have the good grace to try to hide it.

Apparently Jimmy Kimmel should have stuck to acceptable comments, like advocating for homeless people to be executed

This is NOT a First Amendment violation. Mr. Kimmel still has his freedom of expression. His on-air monologue was a pay-for-hire scenario, and, like most of us, he works as an at-will employee. If we started giving questionable perspectives at our place of employment, we would most likely be disciplined or terminated. Political views aside, when affiliates decided not to carry his show any longer, the company had to look at the bottom line financially, and cut the show to reduce potential revenue loss. This also signifies that a good share of the audience did not agree with these views and may have left or be leaving as customers. ABC is owned by Disney, and Disney must answer to its shareholders and maintain profitability to ensure its continuation. Mr. Kimmel became a liability, so he was let go.

People losing their jobs is fine, whatever. I don’t think someone should be fired for posting a quote by the guy, but if companies want to satisfy who they think is the majority, it’s no different than when the left had social capital. But the FCC chair threatening news organizations over speech he doesn’t like? That is very much dangerous and uncharted territory.

Cancel culture is now the mainstream of both parties. We live in a sad, sad world if people are that scared of saying something offensive.

All these pathetic self righteous tools only commenting because he got canned for criticizing someone you don’t like, bet you’d be perfectly happy with him loosing his show if he criticized george floyd.

Freedom of speech is very different from a private company deciding what they want to show for whatever reasons they want

From what I’ve read across multiple sources, it seems to me that Jimmy Kimmel was careless and showed poor judgement more than anything else, but definitely didn’t deserve this. It’s always tricky with comedians as they can often hide behind satire, but what he said veers towards irresponsible speculation and potentially even implying conspiracy, which, in an already politically fragmented country shows a lack of judgement and civic duty. Intent comes secondary to effect and he will have been well aware of that. Overall, wrong move to suspend him, FCC (read: Carr) should have taken time to think, and Jimmy should reflect on his civic duties.
