How long do background checks take?
Iām a 35-year-old in Seattle, and Iām genuinely terrified that Iām already becoming too old for this industry. I looked around our all-hands meeting yesterday and realized that except for upper management, almost everyone on the engineering team is fresh out of college age. They can pull all-nighters without blinking, while my back hurts if I sit in the wrong chair for two hours. Are we all just silently sliding toward an expiration date once we hit our late 30s? How do you stay relevant?
Iām realizing that my coworkers who are being hired externally are making so much more money. Iām now thinking whatās the benefit at staying g at a company and rising the ranks?
Sad, my LinkedIn profile rarely gets any views and even with Premium only appeared on 20 searches last weekš„
š What's the pettiest thing a manager has ever done to you or someone you know?
My company strongly encourages us to use copilot for coding. I have two āvibe codersā in my team. Sometimes they do funny things (like writing a separate java class with getters for two constants, complete with a test class - all AI generated and absolute BS), but most days, itās taking a toll on the rest of us. The most annoying part is that the management praises the ācreative duoā while we struggle, trying to put out their fires and keep the code quality decent.
The limiting factors are how quickly you submit info and how long counties you've lived in drag their feet on criminal checks. YMMV, I've had one particular county's bureaucracy take several weeks even though I have no record š¤·āāļø
Depends on how deep of a background check and how much info can they find. Court, credit etc like 1 day. Deeper ones that needs live scan might take 3-5 days depending how busy are the agencies.
