As the largest producer of peat moss in North America, Sun Gro Horticulture supplies everything but the sun to help plants grow. The company produces and distributes peat moss, peat-based and bark-based growing mixes, fertilizers, and agricultural minerals for commercial growers and home gardeners. Sun Gro operates a dozen plants each in Canada and the US. Its products are sold under various brand names including Sunshine, Nature's, Lakeland, and Black Gold. Sun Gro also produces private-label growing mixes for large home and garden retailers such as Wal-Mart, Lowe's, and Home Depot. Sun Gro Horticulture is owned by Alberta Ltd., which took the company private in 2011.
