Polestar's customers include business publisher Reed Business Information Ltd. and UK newspaper company Northern and Shell. The printing company is controlled by investment firm Investcorp, which formed the company in 1998 through a merger of Watmoughs Holdings, established in the 1880s, and The British Printing Company, founded in 1936.
