Pipestone was founded in 1942 by Drs. E.A. Schweim and P.A. Pinkert as a mixed animal veterinary practice. Dr. G.F. Kennedy joined in 1960, laying the foundation for what would become the largest swine veterinary clinic in the United States. In 1988, we started Pipestone Management, taking a groundbreaking step in 1990 by establishing Hiawatha Gilts, LTD—a farrow-to-finish sow farm owned by local farmers and managed by Pipestone with advanced methods to maintain high health and productivity. Today, we proudly work with over 1,500 farmers seeking to enhance the family farm.

Since our founding, we have evolved into a trusted partner offering a comprehensive suite of services. Through Pipestone Services, we provide expertise in Health, Management, Nutrition, Research, and Business, all designed to enhance productivity, profitability, and sustainability. Our expert veterinarians offer health assessments and proactive biosecurity, while our Veterinary Services warehouse acts as a one-stop shop for animal health products. Pipestone Management helps family farmers succeed by providing a consistent, high health wean pig supply while allowing them to retain ownership of their farms. Pipestone Nutrition is committed to maximizing feed efficiency through both expert nutrition diets and swine feed procurement services. Our Research team provides practical, science-based solutions to industry challenges. Pipestone Business offers comprehensive support in financial planning, staffing, and grow-finish records and consultation to help farmers make data-driven decisions.

To meet the ever-changing needs of the industry, we expanded to incorporate farmer-owned partnerships. These initiatives include Wholestone Farms for pork processing and Stone Partners Capital for diversified portfolios. This expansion ensures our farmers remain competitive and have the resources necessary for long-term success across the entire supply chain.

We are committed to a sustainable future for the next generation of farmers. We live our core value of caring by giving back our time and talents to the communities where we live and work, believing that together we can be the best farmers on the planet, for the planet.
