Description HighBeam Research aims to banish dim search results. The company operates an online "research" engine that searches than 80 million articles from the archives of over 6,500 newspapers, magazines, journals, and other publications. HighBeam targets individuals, students, and small businesses. Revenues come from subscription fees and advertising sales. Formerly Alacritude, HighBeam was formed in 2002 through a combination of assets, including eLibrary, Encyclopedia.com, and meta-search engine Researchville.com. In 2008 HighBeam spun off news aggregation site Newser. Previously owned by a Chicago-based group of investors, HighBeam was purchased by Gale, a publisher of education and research products, in 2008.
