When co-ops work co-operatively, you wind up with a co-op of co-ops: Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL). The organization supports central wholesaling, manufacturing, and administrative services to roughly 1,500,000 individual owner/members, grouped under some 250 retail cooperatives dotting Western Canada. FCL's diverse members include co-op's made up of food stores, pharmacies, clothing stores, general merchandisers, building material enterprises, crop and feed suppliers, gas stations, convenience stores, and travel services. Among its offerings, FCL provides access to petroleum products via its refiner, Consumers' Co-operative Refineries Limited (CCRL), and groceries through subsidiary The Grocery People.
