Mission To make connections to resources, nurture healing and resiliency, and promote restorative justice for people in conflict and crisis.
Description Originally opening in 1970 as a youth drug drop-in center, Gryphon Place progressed into a suicide prevention center. Today, we continue to evolve with the community to best help those in conflict and crisis on local, state, and national levels. Our 15 different programs and services are intentionally integrated to provide a well-rounded approach to support.
Navigating thousands of health and human service organizations and programs to find help is overwhelming. Gryphon Place is here to support those who need a helping hand through 2-1-1 and the upcoming Community Information Exchange®. We also host the Volunteer Center of Battle Creek and Kalamazoo, a one-stop source connecting volunteers to nonprofits and hundreds of volunteer opportunities.
We support those who are having a mental health or suicidal crisis through 9-8-8 and the local Crisis Helpline (269-381-HELP). Gryphon Place is certified by the American Association of Suicidology and meets national standards for Best Practices for Suicide Prevention Hot Lines, and services the community through the Survivors of Suicide Loss (SOS) Support Group, Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), and suicide prevention trainings.
Conflict resolution services are provided through Gryphon Place’s restorative practices. Restorative practices aim to peacefully resolve conflicts, repair harm, restore relationships, improve human behavior, and provide effective leadership. Additionally, we support youth by offering both restorative practices and a suicide prevention training (Gatekeeper) to teach important life skills. We are currently launching the Justice Lifted Arrest Diversion Program (JLADP) in collaboration with several grassroots organizations to provide community-based resources that address the whole child.
