Description Think it's any better than the old kind? New Gold is exploring and developing gold properties in the Americas and in Australia. It also has developmental projects in Canada and Chile. Though primarily a gold miner, New Gold also produces copper and silver. The company came into its current form in 2008 when it combined with gold producers Peak Gold and Metallica Resources. The next year it bought Western Goldfields for $1.1 billion. In 2011 New Gold acquired Canadian gold miner Richfield Ventures for $567 million. New Gold's proven and probable gold reserves are some 8.2 million ounces. Consolidating its British Columbian assets, in 2011 the company acquired Silver Quest Resources for about $131 million.
