Bargain-hunting travelers are the wind beneath Germanwings. The low-fare, no-frills carrier serves about 60 destinations throughout Europe, from Scandinavia to the Mediterranean, including major business centers as well as popular vacation spots. Germanwings operates a fleet of about 30 Airbus A319 jets, mainly from hubs in Cologne and Stuttgart but also from bases in Berlin and Hamburg and several other German cities. Founded in 2002, Germanwings is a subsidiary of regional carrier Eurowings, which in turn is controlled by Deutsche Lufthansa.
