In 1897, a young entrepreneur named Isaac Van Westenbrugge embarked on a journey that would shape the future of foodservice distribution. With a loan of $300 from his brother, he founded a butter and egg delivery business in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This humble beginning marked the birth of what would later become Gordon Food Service.
Over a century later, we’ve expanded into the largest family-operated food distribution company in North America by upholding the same business approach since then - being passionately committed to the people we serve.
With a product range and logistical wingspan that both celebrates and trumps our founding days, we’ve delivered the excellence, expertise, and quality products our customers need to design successful food operations and experiences for 125 years.
We serve foodservice operators in the Midwest, Northeast, Southeast and Southwest regions of the United States and coast-to-coast in Canada. We also operate more than 180 Gordon Food Service Store locations in the United States, which are open to the public and provide restaurant-quality products and friendly, knowledgeable service without a membership fee.
