Description National Park Trust (NPT) knows we can't completely trust the government to care for the nation's national parks. So the not-for-profit organization strives to protect national parks, wildlife, and historical monuments in the US. It purchases or otherwise acquires land in and adjacent to existing parks or land that is suitable for park creation and donates it to groups such as The National Park Service to manage. Past projects have included protecting Abraham Lincoln's boyhood home in Kentucky, acquiring a 907-acre site within Wrangell St. Elias National Park in Alaska, and establishing a buffer along the Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site in North Dakota. NPT was founded in 1983.
