ORNL Federal Credit Union was chartered on August 6, 1948, to serve the employees of Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Each of our ten founding members put up $5.00 to create an initial deposit base of $50.00.
Today, members of ORNL FCU account for over four billion dollars in assets. Our community credit union provides financial services to businesses and anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in the 19 counties of Central East Tennessee:
Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Rhea, Roane, Scott, Sevier, and Union.
Our members live and work primarily in the Greater Knoxville area, however we have members living in each of the 50 states as well as dozens of countries around the world. Our Board of Directors consists of 9 members, each elected by the membership to serve 3-year terms.
Together, We Thrive
ORNL Federal Credit Union has been around since 1948 - a financial cooperative, owned by our members and continuing to grow strong while serving thousands of your friends and neighbors by providing the tools and accounts to help them save more and spend less. And we've always worked to encourage our members to do just that. And now more than ever it's time to get back to the basics.
Our core values lay the foundation for a culture that is welcoming and rooted in passion and positivity. We don’t just hire by these values - we celebrate them every day to cultivate a company culture that welcomes all. Together, everyone plays a key role in serving our members and communities.
At ORNL FCU, we give back to our community because we believe that when our communities thrive, we all thrive. ORNL FCU and our employees support a wide range of community organizations including Dogwood Arts, Boys & Girls Club, Girls Inc, Zoo Knoxville, and United Way. ORNL FCU employees are granted opportunities to serve our communities - through event participation and our volunteer paid time off initiative, which encourages employees to pursue their passions and find opportunities to serve their own communities by volunteering at non-profits of their choice.
