Description The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) was established in 2004 to effectively integrate foreign, military, and domestic intelligence in defense of the US and its interests. The ODNI coordinates the efforts of the US Intelligence Community, which includes the CIA, the FBI, NSA, various intelligence agencies within the Department of Defense and other federal agencies with intelligence gathering duties. The Director of National Intelligence serves as head of the Intelligence Community and acts as principal advisor to the President, the National Security Council, and the Homeland Security Council on intelligence issues. The director is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate.
