Description The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is the federal agency tasked with investigating every civil aviation accident. Besides civil aviation accidents, the NTSB investigates certain public-use aircraft accidents, serious highway accidents, railroad accidents with a fatality or significant property damage, major marine accidents, pipeline accidents involving a fatality or major property damage, hazardous material releases in all forms of transportation, and recurring transportation accidents. When an accident investigation is complete, the NTSB issues safety recommendations that are frequently adopted and become standard safety features in planes, trains, automobiles, pipelines, and marine vessels.
