Made up of 30 members in the Senate and 60 members in the House of Representatives, the state legislature meets every two years in January. Senators (serving four-year terms) represent a district with some 114,000 residents, and Representatives (serving two-year terms) represent about 57,000 citizens in each district. After the House and the Senate pass a bill, it is forwarded to the governor for approval. A two-thirds vote in the legislature will override the governor's veto.
