Hands On Hartford's mission is, in partnership with others, to strengthen community in Hartford by responding faithfully to people in need through programs that change lives and renew human possibility.
Hands On Hartford transforms lives by working with tenants, clients, and guests to be sure they have enough nutritious food to eat; have safe, stable, and affordable housing; are receiving good health care; and are able to access other benefits and resources necessary to live happy and productive lives. We work with volunteers and members of the community to educate them about issues of poverty and empower them to make a difference. At our Center for Community, we emphasize and celebrate the commonalities among our entire community, connecting people from all walks of life, remembering that everyone has something to give as well as receive, and that we are all lifted up when we treat others and are treated with dignity and respect. At our heart, we’re about connecting communities, engaging volunteers, serving neighbors – and finding ways to ever deepen this work and address emerging community needs.
