Company Name: Mary Cariola Center Founding: Established in 1949 by Mary Pulvino and six other families as The Day Care Center for Handicapped Children, later renamed Mary Cariola Center. Founding Inspiration: Mary Pulvino was motivated by her nephew Butchie, who had developmental disabilities, to create a center that provided opportunities for children with disabilities to reach their full potential. She believed in individualized care and rejected the institutional approach prevalent at the time. Mission: Mary Cariola Center is dedicated to providing innovative and specialty programs to individuals with developmental disabilities, medical needs, and significant behavioral challenges. The mission is rooted in the belief that every individual, regardless of disability, deserves the opportunity to thrive and develop to their maximum potential. Services and Programs: -Initially provided social, recreational, and vocational experiences for children not eligible for public school. -Expanded over the years to include a wide range of services and programs tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual served. -Currently serves more than 350 students and 44 residents across three campuses and six residential group homes in Monroe County. -Offers an Enhanced Waiver Services Program, providing Day and Community Habilitation Services and Therapeutic Respite to individuals in the community with significant behavioral challenges.
