Description Japanese take the family to FamilyMart, the country's #3 convenience store chain behind market leader Seven-Eleven Japan and LAWSON. About half of the company's 17,560 stores are in Japan. FamilyMart also has shops in China, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the US. The chain opened its first store in Shanghai in 2004 and has grown to 500-plus stores in China. FamilyMart entered the US market in 2005 and now operates about 10 convenience stores in the Los Angeles area under the Famima banner. Strengthening its retail network, FamilyMart absorbed smaller rival am/pm Japan Co. from owner REX Holdings (2010), and am/pm Kansai from Kappa Create (2011), therby converting most am/pm-brand stores to its own banner.
