The spry 340-year-old Okaya & Co. holds its own against its bigger, younger brothers, Japan's mammoth "sogo shosha" (general trading companies). Founded as a hardware shop in 1669 in the Teppocho district of Nagoya, Okaya's trading interests include iron and steel, nonferrous metals, chemicals, building materials, electronics, machinery, food products, and more. The company has around 25 offices throughout Japan and another 35 locations worldwide.
