Description This Ivanhoe is not Walter Scott's hero of yore, but it does have an adventurous story to tell. Ivanhoe Mines explores for and develops mineral properties, primarily in Asia. Its main projects are both located in Mongolia: Oyu Tolgoi, a project that holds an estimated 20 million ounces of gold and another 20 billion tons of copper, and the coal mining property Ovoot Tolgoi. Other holdings include gold mine stakes in Kazakhstan and China. Chairman Robert Friedland owns 32% of Ivanhoe. Rio Tinto holds a 48.5% stake in Ivanhoe, partly in exchange for assistance in the development of the Oyu Tolgoi project. In 2010 Ivanhoe increased the stake to 66% in a joint venture with Rio Tinto and the Mongolian government.
