Pros
The fully distributed (ie remote) work environment allows me to work from anywhere in the world. This provides me with a huge amount of personal flexibility. We work hard during busy season, but never more than standard 40 hours (never the 60+ hours I used to work at Big 4)! Because compensation is commission based, I can work as little or as much as I want, and my pay reflects that effort. There is always more than enough work for all team members, so there is never a feeling of "not enough." All team members are extremely friendly, willing to assist with questions, and collaborative. Despite working in different locations, I've formed strong relationships with my colleagues. There is not a lot of employee turnover, and I've been working with the same team members during my entire tenure with the firm. I've learned so much during my years at Bright!Tax, in both a technical sense and business sense. The team has an excellent sense of client service that is unmatched in competitor firms. And our happy clients make for a happy work environment.
Cons
Being a fully distributed workplace with employees all over the globe, it can be hard to coordinate meetings (employees are sometimes in different time zones). Sometimes clients are slow in providing information, which delays projects and therefore compensation (commission based).
