Cons
Change in Role & Misalignment with Job Description Upon joining, I was informed that my role would focus solely on library operations, handling and resolving librarian issues. However, due to an immediate requirement in the logistics department caused by sudden resignations, I was asked to assist for 10-15 days to support the team and gain an understanding of logistics. While I was initially aligned with this arrangement, this temporary assignment turned into three months, and despite multiple escalations, I was never transferred back to my designated department. Initially, I was assured that this was a temporary shift, but later, I was told that I would continue permanently in logistics, which was both disappointing and misleading. Unfair Workload Perception & Workplace Culture Despite working 9-10+ hours daily, I was told on multiple occasions that my efforts were inadequate or that I had not worked at all. This was demotivating, as I have always been fully dedicated to my responsibilities. Furthermore, I was made aware that I was being discussed behind my back, with claims that I was frequently on my phone. However, had I been asked directly, I would have clarified that my phone usage was work-related—specifically, for booking 20-25 porter shipments daily, which was a key part of my responsibilities. This created an unhealthy work environment and office politics, which is especially detrimental to a growing startup. Unjust Salary Deduction & Lack of Communication on Policies Upon receiving my February salary (credited on February 6, after a one-day delay), I was extremely disappointed to see an unexplained deduction of ₹9,677. Upon checking with HR, I was informed that I was marked absent for days when I fell short of the 9-hour shift requirement by just 10-15 minutes. At no point was this rule communicated to me—neither verbally nor over email—during my time at TheElefant.ai. Had I been informed earlier, I would have ensured compliance. Furthermore: If an employee is short by a few minutes, marking an entire day as absent is highly unfair. A more reasonable approach would have been marking it as a half-day. If strict adherence to the 9-hour rule is expected, then overtime pay should also be implemented for days when an employee works beyond 9 hours. I also worked on Christmas (2024) and New Year’s Day, despite these being official company holidays, yet I was not compensated for this extra effort. If the 9-hour rule is to be enforced, I request that I also be compensated for my overtime and holiday work. Probation Extension Without Prior Notification I was verbally informed by HR that my probation period was extended to 5 months, and I was told I would receive an email confirming this. However, I never received any such communication, nor was I informed by my reporting manager. This lack of clarity and formal communication further added to my concerns.
