Pros

Working at Yahara House - Journey Mental Health Center offered deeply meaningful opportunities to support dedicated members in their recovery through psychosocial rehabilitation, vocational training, and skill-building. The clubhouse's emphasis on strengths-based and person-centered recovery, as well as the role of empowerment, community, and dignity aligned strongly with my values. The work environment fostered genuine relationships and a sense of shared purpose among members.

Cons

At the same time, there were serious structural problems that made the job hard to sustain. Boundaries weren’t consistently enforced, and leadership often didn’t step in when they needed to, which left me feeling unsafe. There were also big gaps in basic safety planning and security, which added a constant layer of stress. On top of that, the documentation load was heavy and often pushed into unpaid hours. Over time, all of this took a real toll on my well-being.

Pros

Great staff and members Amazing snacks/lunches/food in general A lot of PTO

Cons

A lot of documentation and paperwork. Rarely even met my quota each month and it was lower than a lot of other staff. You also do get a lot of PTO but I never used it all. Felt like I couldn’t take time off because I felt guilty since I had a lot of responsibilities. I also didn’t want to put it on other staff because everyone else was already so overwhelmed. You cannot take time off the same time as other people on your same team, so keep that in mind. Lastly, pay is not great at all. It was very difficult to live off of, so I had two jobs for a little while just to support myself.
