Pros

Top executives of Sanky Communications are the best people I've ever worked for. They are genuinely, deeply committed to the mission of the firm -- and to the missions of their nonprofit clients. They are compassionate but dedicated to cohesive effectiveness.

Cons

No cons about Sanky to offer

Pros

You learn a lot about communicating with various clients and internal teams. Long-term employees can acquire quite a bit of PTO.

Cons

The atmosphere is toxic. Communication is terrible. Information is either spread via gossip or poorly secured files on the drive that anyone can access. If you're in the in-group, you're treated with kid gloves. If you're not, you're held to impossible standards. A reorganization meant you no longer had a core team of employees who had your back, which destroyed camaraderie. A story that truly illustrats the company is one retreat that was held at a children's summer camp where employees had to sleep in bunk beds in cabins with one bathroom for every 8-12 people. On the second night when temperatures dropped into the low 40s, management made absolutely no effort to move employees out of the uninsulated, freezing cabins or to provide extra blankets. The next morning when we reconvened, it was treated like a joke ("Got a little chilly last night, eh? Haha!"). I truly believe employees were given the next day off because management was scared everyone was about to walk off the job. Employees are overworked and underpaid. Sanky is NOT a non-profit but pays its employees as if it were, which is funny because I am now working at a legitimate non-profit in a position two steps below what I did at Sanky and make more money, have less responsibility and have a clear work life balance. The company is bleeding clients. A downturn in charitable giving? Poor management? ¿Porque no los dos?

Sanky Communications Response

The retreat referenced in this review took place several years ago, and aspects of it were indeed handled poorly. As CEO, I take responsibility for that. At the time, I was not aware overnight that some of the cabins were inadequately heated and that the facility had run short on blankets despite our requests for additional supplies. I did walk the grounds that evening checking in with employees before turning in myself, and I genuinely regret that I did not understand at the time just how cold and miserable the conditions had become for some people overnight. Had I understood the extent of the situation, we absolutely would have intervened differently and more aggressively in the moment. Once we fully understood the situation the following morning, we gave employees the day off because it was clear people had gotten very little sleep and had gone through a genuinely uncomfortable and exhausting night. More broadly, the nonprofit sector has faced significant disruption and financial pressure in recent years, and our company — like many others — has gone through meaningful changes as we worked to stabilize and position ourselves for the future. Change is not always easy, and clearly some employees experienced that period very negatively. At the same time, we remain deeply committed to our staff, our clients, and the mission-driven organizations we serve. We continue working to improve communication, strengthen our culture, and build a sustainable future for our team. Harry Lynch, CEO
