Pros

The Members living within the Compound

Cons

Relive High School with this job! Gossip, Cliques, Top Management/other top tier positions spying on employees to use against them, talking down to employees, lack of compassion/understanding, impatience, etc.! High turnover here happens for a reason! Not hard to walk out of this place for lack of respect from most who work there!

Pros

This private all year round recreational residential sports club is nestled in some of Michigan's most beautiful country. The club is situated on over 11,000 acres and boasts five lakes, trails and many amenities for members and guests to partake. It has a rich history dating back to 1926 and has many venues and activities for members and guests to enjoy, It does have a slightly more casual atmosphere and is not as stuffy or high brow as some private clubs may be.

Cons

There is no HR department, normal training program, with no performance reviews. "We're the only game in town" attitude where employees are overworked and underpaid. Too much reponsibility is placed on the shoulders of employees as most department are run with "skeleton crews" because members continue to refuse to increase dues which will increase amenities, staffing and salaries. No incentive program. Raises are practically non-existent. Many workers have been working there for 10-30 years and are barely breaking $11 (even though they are skilled labor). No internal systems for communication among staff workers. As staff crews are on a "skeleton crew" basis, not enough employees to cover in case of illness or other emergency. All staff work EVERY holiday, no vacations/time off during the summer as summer is the peak season for this club and with small crews, everyone has to work every holiday and busy weekend. Vacations are allowed from October through April, however--unless it is a holiday. People who show initiative are piled on with extra work and if you try to open dialog with superiors you are advised to "suck it up." No retirement program (one of the benefits to employees that was dropped as members did not want to vote in a dues increase). if you are a salaried worker you must be prepared to be called back in to work at any and all hours of the day or night in the event that something happens as not all departments work every shift. Too many areas that need improvement--complacency among staff, the management that will cut your hours so you quit rather than fire you (hoping that you'll "take a hint."), management that don't/won't listen.
