Council are very unwilling to allow part time employees to increase their hours. They do everything to avoid issuing contracts as that gives you employment rights. As cuts are made in education, from support staff to qualified teachers (e.g. in EAL) more and more falls onto class teachers to have to do, resulting in a relentless workload. No account is taken of this by GCC and I see more staff taking days off with sickness/stress. Hardly any opportunities for promotion due to faculty head posts.
