Pros

I gained experience in administrative and patient-facing duties during my time at FutureMeds, including preparing patient paperwork and learning some aspects of reception. Local site access was convenient.

Cons

Despite completing mandatory modules quickly, there was a total lack of role-specific training. Requests for development were dismissed based on colleagues' inaccurate assumptions about my age and previous experience. Management (site leadership) provided threatening feedback rather than constructive guidance. Direct quotes like "I would have fired you on the spot" were used to undermine confidence rather than improve performance. Comments regarding personal attire (e.g., professional pinafores/tights) and unsolicited assumptions about my personal life created a distracting and unprofessional environment. The company attempted to reclaim wages by misinterpreting their own contract and ignoring statutory rights (the Employment Rights Act 1996).

Pros

My coworkers were great - Overall, I felt that it was a very international and welcoming work environment. I also liked the hybrid model where you could primarily work from home, but also go to the office whenever you like. During my first few months the work-life balance was also good. I accumulated a decent range of transferable skills that helped land me a better job.

Cons

The company culture shifted drastically after the acquisition by FutureMeds. Their current modus operandi appears to how to get the most work out of people for the least amount of money. The salaries were always bad (below the industry average) but prior to the acquisition I could at least say my work-life balance was decent. These days, many coordinators and project managers are accumulating unacceptable amounts of overtime hours. While I was there, working on weekends, bank holidays and even your own holidays (if you can even get them approved in the first place) is common. The worst part by far is how the leadership treats its employees and their concerns. The issues of overwork and understaffing have been repeatedly raised. Concerns were routinely ignored. Instead, it is often the employees who are told off and blamed for working overtime. Unsurprisingly, this resulted in a mass exodus of burned-out workers, making life even harder for the ones that remained. In general, the turnover rate for this company is extremely high, and, after having worked there, I can understand why. I would only recommend this place if you currently have no other options, and even then, I would recommend finding something else as soon as you can. Lastly, working in the clinical sector requires focus, precision and dedication. In many cases, you cannot afford to make any mistakes. Overworking your employees to the point where they can barely keep up with their projects and related tasks is a recipe for disaster.
