Pros
It's right next to two bus stops, so if you have issues with your vehicle right now it's ideal for you. They also have a window of opportunity to clock in between 8:30am to 9am so that's a nice thing. There's an hour lunch break, so that's nice.
Cons
Where to begin? First off, all the other reviews on here so far are not hyperbole. If you're an attorney, I could tell that the founding partner only cared about how the attorneys put out motions to file online. The founding attorney is also the only one are allowed to receive regular feedback from, not that it matters much since it seems they go through attorneys very regularly as well. When I was hired there was no HR department, now there's an HR person at least but nothing else.
As harsh as the founding attorney is with his attorneys, he's even harder on everyone else. Management more than likely doesn't have anything more than a paralegal certificate in order to work there. They have NO coherent procedures I can decipher other than "when in doubt, ask the founding attorney for help." They're trying to expand so the water will regularly go out at the new building they're at. Having a J.D. but not being barred by a bar association will have the founding attorney look down on you, some of the other attorneys don't seem to be that way but there isn't enough interaction to really tell.
There's no "90 day period" for anyone to prove that they are capable of working there, The moment the wrong people in management put in compliants on you, you are let go. There's no training at this firm for non-attorneys, I don't know if they have a training program for attorneys but given how I saw things I would hope they would at least consider bolstering it if they have one.
The way they handle physical files lets me know that they have nothing concrete on a definitive filing system. All the court filing seems to be handled under the founding attorney's name, letting me think that the firm cares little about developing young attorneys and more about the reputation of the firm and the founding attorney overall.
Their handling of files on a electronic basis also leaves much to be desired. They use MyCase but they don't really file away any files here, whether that's to save space in their harddrives, money for the firm, or both I could not tell.
They also seem to pressure clients into specific types of petitions and motions for their cases. They CAN tailor a client's case to the client's situation but it doesn't seem like the founding attorney wants to do that as opposed to having them pay for the retainer and the fees that they seem to regularly charge clients.
Regardless of pay, this isn't a place you'd want to work at if you plan on starting your legal career in any capacity. It isn't a VAWA factory, which is really good given that Houston is infamous for those, but this firm isn't much better than a VAWA factory in my opinion.
