Pros

Awesome culture! The vibe has really shifted there over the years and it totally depends on who the admin is at the time when u work there & there's often big turnover there (why?). Deer hill is an super pro place to work if your looking to build skills as an outdoor educator and/or raft guide. I learned tons there about nature and how to talk to kids and make them feel welcome. Apparently trainings have vastly improved? Way to go on shifting your policies on housing tho, way more supportive now.

Cons

Low pay for the industry. Starting off at $106/day & maxing out at $130 a day when your working from sun up to sun down is killer! These wages are more in alignment with agencies like Outward Bound or NOLS who are mostly teaching large groups of singular paying clients, much like DHE's summer programs. but similar companies that do spring trips for wealthy schools (aka Dhe's spring and fall progrms) pay WAY more and offer lots of perks like gas/travel reimbursemnt. Results are constant turnover at all levels and loss of knowledge. Theres not a lot of experienced folks around too learn from.
