Pros
- Free parking, if you get there before 8am in order to get a space.
- Offices are a lot more modern than other housing associations. Meeting rooms well equipped for hybrid meetings.
- Salaries are higher than equivalent roles in the sector.
- Benefits package is good. Annual bonus is unusual for the sector.
- If your face fits, you can access training and promotion opportunities.
Cons
- Bloated management structure. Assistant Directors and 'Head of' roles for tiny departments with about 3 members of staff. Just loads of overpaid supervisors.
- Lots of senior managers have come from outside of the sector and lack understanding of housing.
- No soul. Office is quiet, no social side, people don't even talk to each other at lunch.
- A bit of a cult. Everything is fine as long as you say the right things. Express an opinion, and you'll very quickly become an outsider.
- High turnover of staff, particularly because PHG relies on fixed-term contracts and doesn't give any job security.
- Morale is terrible amongst frontline staff, but senior leaders are either oblivious, or don't want to address it.
- Long hours with no opportunity for paid overtime.
