if you are a foreigner it is an okay gig if you don't mind being couped up. Outside the University is a different world and the University doesn't offer much support in terms of navigating it, but it is a job and not an adventure. I got pretty sick and they were supportive; they don't like to lose good people who don't make waves or complain (complaining constantly is a no-no).

Winter is brutal, and medical care is spotty at best especially if you have any psych/mental health issues--this is not the country for you. Also, most of the Kazakh/Local staff hate your guts because of your paycheck. They don't seem to understand that there would be no foreign professors there is the pay was not comparable to what we would make in the US or Europe.
