Pros
There are kind people that work there, and the work is meaningful.
Cons
The pay is horrible. Reporters are often told they'll be working part-time and hired as independent contractors, but they're expected to act like employees. Those at the top are making the most money, while those doing on-the-ground reporting are young people interested in getting into journalism. They also might ask you to do tasks outside of writing but refuse to pay you for the additional work they might offer.
