Valuable experience but overwhelming workload and low pay - Social Media Manager Artisan Council Employee Review

Pros

Like everyone says, the people. You can make lifelong friendships here but it's probably due to trauma bonding (see cons). You will get great experience and there is an opportunity to learn around every corner. For someone starting out in their career in social media, it is extremely valuable to set you up for next steps. But at what cost?

Cons

My mental health was the worst it's ever been while I worked here. And I was not alone in that. The workload and expectations are insane. I worked a 6 day week usually to try to compensate for my workload, and this is not a problem I've ever had in any other job before or after this. The salary also is not competitive for industry standard, especially for New York and for how much they expect of you. They definitely try to compensate for this with Summer Fridays, etc. but it's a weak distraction, not a fair trade.

Pros

- The interview process was refreshingly swift. Mine lasted about a month, including four interviews and one assessment, and communication was clear throughout. - Onboarding was well-organized and easy to follow. - Accommodations for diverse needs were taken seriously and honored when requested, which made a strong first impression. - Training is built into the process, and early learning feels supported rather than rushed. - DEI and progressive values are woven into the company’s DNA, not just lip service. - The team genuinely looks for ways to push the needle forward for clients, and creativity from all team members is welcomed and encouraged. - 2 PM “Summer Fridays” are honored all year round, a small but meaningful perk that reflects a culture of trust.

Cons

- PTO doesn’t kick in until the 6-month mark, which is something to be aware of if you’re coming from roles with earlier access. However, unpaid time off can be requested before that. - I’m still fairly new, but so far work-life balance doesn’t seem to be as emphasized as some of the company’s other cultural values. That said, I’ve noticed systems in place that support it and I’m hopeful it’s something that continues to evolve!
